Christopher (Chris) Turner Buffaloe, 27, of Conway, was jailed Tuesday on $1,294,000 bond and has a first court appearance in Northampton County today (Thursday).

The date of offenses, according to warrants filed in the Northampton County Courthouse, and based on investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation, range from March 1 to April 14.

The SBI investigation shows Buffaloe allegedly committed a range of crimes against the girl, from sexual intercourse to sending photos of his genitalia.

He faces the following charges:
Six counts of felony statutory rape that include alleged sexual activity with the child;
One count of indecent liberties with a child that alleges he committed and attempted to commit a lewd and lascivious act with the child;

One count of felony second-degree exploitation of a minor, a count that alleges he received and solicited material that contained a visual representation of a minor engaged in sexual activity and a picture of the child’s sexual organ. The count alleges he asked the victim to send him naked pictures;

One count of felony solicitation of a child by computer. This count alleges soliciting by means of a computer and through texting a meeting for the purpose of committing an unlawful sexual act with the child; and

One count of disseminating obscene material, a charge that alleges he sent a picture of his genitalia to the child.

Buffaloe has worked with several law enforcement agencies in Northampton and Halifax counties throughout his career, to include the Seaboard Police Department. He was named in January of 2010 at the Captain of Conway-Severn Rescue Squad, an entity that offers a Juniors (ages 14-17) program in an effort to get young people interested in becoming the next generation of EMT’s.

Former Officer Jeremy Rose Charged with Sexual Exploitation of Minor

Former Tremonton police officer Jeremy Rose has been charged with 15 offenses in the collection of thousands of photos of a teenage girl in various stages of undress.

Rose was arrested and booked into the Box Elder County Jail Thursday, said Utah Attorney General's Office spokeswoman Missy Larsen, and is scheduled for arraignment April 7 before 1st District Judge Ben Hadfield.

Rose, 37, is charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, and two counts of voyeurism, a third-degree felony. He's also charged with single counts of dealing in material harmful to a minor, communications fraud, obstruction of justice, and stalking, all felonies but the stalking, a class A misdemeanor.

While employed by the Tremonton force, Rose convinced a then-15-year-old Tremonton girl to pose semi-nude for photos he said he would sell for her on the Internet and to private buyers, according to charging documents. That was a ruse in order to collect the photos for himself, the charges say.

He also allegedly hid a camera in the girl's bedroom to record video of her dressing and undressing.

Rose is being held in lieu of $145,000 bail. The case was handed off by the Box Elder County Attorney's Office last year to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest since prosecutors there had worked with Rose for years.

Rose resigned from the Tremonton department in July after investigation began by the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which was assisted by Tremonton police.

The case features a 15-page probable cause affidavit, a document rarely longer than a page.
It details Rose's apparent obsession with the teen beginning in early 2012 and continuing through much of last year until his initial arrest in June. Due to the complex investigation detailed in the affidavit, the charges weren't filed until Thursday by the attorney general's office.  Rose was a 12-year veteran on the Tremonton force.

Rose set up fake email accounts and links to a bogus online company where he told her he was selling the photos, the affidavit says.

He sent emails under assumed names from the fake company encouraging her in her nude and semi-nude posing for photos with Rose, as well as those she took herself and sent to the fake Internet site, according to the affidavit.

They told her she could make more money by wearing less clothing, one of the emails said.
Investigators were informed last June by Rose's wife that he had confessed to her and other family members, according to the affidavit.

The thousands of images of the minor were found on Rose's several cell phones "as well the laptop computer he was assigned through his employment at the Tremonton Police Department," it reads.

The document refers to Rose paying the girl $300 for her pictures and buying her an iPhone for her picture-taking.

Officer Joe Holman Arrested for Sexual Explotion of Stepdaughter

Aspen police officer Joe Holman, 38, resigned his position and turned himself in to authorities Wednesday to face allegations that he attempted to sexually exploit his teenage stepdaughter.

Holman, a six-year veteran of the police department and a city of Aspen employee since 1994, is charged with two counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, a class 4 felony; tampering with evidence, a class 6 felony; child abuse, a class 2 misdemeanor; and attempted criminal invasion of privacy, a class 3 misdemeanor.

He allegedly placed a camera the size of a Ping-Pong ball in his stepdaughter’s shower. The incident was investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which elected to pursue charges. The bureau also investigated Holman after a similar accusation involving his stepdaughter surfaced last year, according to court records.

Holman was put on paid administrative leave May 29 while the CBI conducted a criminal investigation. The Aspen Police Department probed the matter internally but officials said they are not releasing their findings.

“The internal investigation has been concluded but due to the fact it’s a personnel matter, we’re not able to comment further,” Aspen police spokeswoman Stephanie Desarro said Thursday.

Holman could not be reached for comment. He turned himself in to a Pitkin County sheriff’s deputy Wednesday and was taken to jail. He was released from the Pitkin County Jail the same day on $11,000 bond.

An affidavit signed by CBI agent Brooks Bennett reports that Holman’s stepdaughter went to take a shower in her bathroom the night of April 29 when she noticed “something out of place” in the front of a mesh bag used for Holman’s younger son’s toys. Inside the mesh bag, hanging just above the top of the bathtub, she found a tiny camera contained in a waterproof case pointed toward her, the affidavit states.

Holman initially denied having knowledge of the camera. When confronted by his family, “Joe asked, ‘Do you think I did it as a pervert move?’ ... [His family members] replied, ‘I don’t know.’ Joe stated ‘if this is such a big issue, give it to me’ and he placed the camera on the floor and stomped on the camera destroying it,” the affidavit says.

The next morning, Holman admitted to putting the camera in the shower, explaining he did it because he was upset with his stepdaughter.

“Holman maintains he placed the camera only to make [her] mad. [She] had recently been disciplined, but was not following the rules set in place during the discipline,” the CBI affidavit says. “Holman figured since [his stepdaughter] was ‘pissing him off’ he would do something that would do the same to her. In 2008, [she] had accused Holman of watching her inappropriately. Holman told me those allegations gave him the idea of placing the camera in the shower. Since [she] thought he was watching her last year, he decided to place the camera to make her think he was watching her now, therefore making her mad.”

Holman claimed he placed the camera in the shower the same day it was found. The affidavit said Holman now realizes he made a mistake.

The stepdaughter told police she doesn’t believe Holman used the photos for anything sexual; she believes he wanted to make her angry.

The affidavit says that Holman “was apparently using his work laptop computer to view the digital images recorded by the camera.”

In 2008, Holman’s stepdaughter claimed she “saw things” that made her feel like her stepfather was creeping around, watching her. He walked in on her, apparently mistaking her bedroom for the laundry room, and she once saw a mirror slide underneath her bedroom door, the affidavit said.

Holman has been married to the alleged victim’s biological mother for about eight years. He and the woman have a young child together.

His first court appearance is scheduled for July 20 at 10:30 a.m. An attorney has not entered an appearance on his behalf but the affidavit identified Richard Daly, who could not be reached, as his lawyer.

Officer Mark Benton Ashcraft Arrested for Sexual Abuse to Child

A 36-year-old police officer was arraigned in Umatilla County today on felony sex-abuse charges involving a child.

The district attorney's office said Mark Benton Ashcraft of Athena was being held in Umatilla County Jail on $50,000 bail. He's charged with sex abuse in the second degree, sodomy in the third degree, and online sexual corruption of a child in the first degree.

The arrest came as a surprise to officials in Athena, which has a population of 1,270.

"We know as much as you do," said Dyann Swanson, Athena city recorder.

She said Ashcraft will be put on paid administrative leave and that the city will seek legal advice on what to do.

"It's an unfortunate thing," she said. "But he's only been arrested. He's not been convicted."

Ashcraft is one of two officers in the city. He was hired in December 2007 after working nine years in Pilot Rock.

Swanson said, "He's been a perfect police officer. We have not had any problem with him at all."

Ashcraft, who was arrested Monday afternoon, is due next in court at the end of the month.

Former Officer Anthony Miller Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Porn

Former Hastings police officer Anthony Miller pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of child pornography at a court appearance Thursday in St. Croix County, Wis.

Miller had originally pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of child pornography, in addition to a charge of sexual exploitation of a child, but the exploitation charge was amended Thursday to a second count of possession. He is scheduled to appear for a sentencing hearing Aug. 17.

According to the criminal complaint filed last December, Miller admitted to agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation that he downloaded, possessed and traded child pornography for approximately the previous two years, consisting of images of girls Miller estimated to be between the ages of nine and 15.

Former Hastings police officer Anthony Miller pleaded guilty Thursday June 18 to two counts of possession of child pornography.

The two charges are felonies and carry a combined maximum sentence of 50 years in prison and a $200,000 fine, in addition to a $500 court surcharge for each illegal image.

Miller, a New Richmond, Wis., resident, resigned from the Hastings Police Department in January after an 11-year career with the department.

According to Wisconsin Department of Justice officials, Miller admitted he used his personal laptop to view child pornography while on duty as a police officer. Miller said he obtained Internet access via unencrypted wireless signals from various locations throughout the Hastings area.

Operation Shattered Innocence Nabs Two Probation Officers

Law enforcement statewide made two more arrests Thursday and seized more computers in the wrap up of a statewide sweep to gather up those who sent and received pornographic images of children.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said 103 computers have now been seized and 25 people arrested over three days, including two private probation officers and at least two juveniles.

On Tuesday, local, state and federal officers spanned out across the state, executing 44 search warrants that were based on the findings of a three-month-long investigation, “Operation Shattered Innocence.”

The GBI, which coordinated the operation, was still gathering information from all the law enforcement agencies involved Thursday but the agency had some information on who was arrested and what has been found so far.

One of the probation officers charged with felony sexual exploitation of children was Christopher Lee Tucker of Hazelhurst, who turned himself in to the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday morning.

Former Officer Nathan Thomas Arrested for Rape

A former Cleveland police officer, already facing charges related to selling prescription painkillers, now stands charged with two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to District Attorney Steve Bebb.

Nathan Thomas, 37, turned himself in to the Bradley County Jail at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Thomas reportedly posted bond, which was set at $50,000, and was released from jail at 3 p.m. the same day.

Thomas was the second former Cleveland police officer arrested on sex charges Thursday.

Former Cleveland police officer Dennis Hughes turned himself in to the Bradley County Jail Thursday at 10 a.m.

Hughes was charged with three counts of statutory rape, one count of especially aggravated sexual exploitation, one count of sexual exploitation of a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to District Attorney Steve Bebb.

Hughes posted bond, which was set at $100,000, Thursday afternoon. He was released at 1:30 p.m.

A Bradley County grand jury met Thursday morning and indicted Hughes and Thomas on the sex offenses based on an investigation led by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

According to reports, the investigation stemmed from an incident on Jan. 5 when Hughes was arrested on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a 16-year-old girl, who was reported as a runaway.

According to the affidavit of complaint dated Jan. 5, Hughes was observed leaving Thomas' home at 152 Winding Glen Drive N.W. at 12:40 a.m. with the 16-year-old girl in his vehicle.

Bradley County deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Lauderdale Highway and Mouse Creek Road. When deputies searched Hughes' vehicle, they allegedly found numerous empty and full beer bottles and prescription pill bottles. Deputies also detected both Hughes and the girl had a "strong smell of alcohol about their person."

According to the TBI's search warrant, after the girl was apprehended, she was taken to a hospital for a rape examination.

The examination was reportedly conducted at the request of her parents.

During the examination, the girl reportedly admitted that in the past she had sexual intercourse with Hughes; however, the female said there had been no sexual contact at the time of his arrest Jan. 5.

Through the search warrants, agents with the TBI confiscated a cell phone and computer from Hughes' vehicle. According to the TBI's search warrant, agents performed a forensic examination of the cell phone and "found three pictures of an underage and under-developed female in the nude."

During an interview with Cleveland Police Detective Suzanne Jackson on Jan. 12, the girl reportedly told Jackson the cell phone pictures found in Hughes' possession were allegedly taken by Hughes in a bathroom at Thomas' residence on the night of Jan. 4.

According to the TBI's search warrant, during the interview with Jackson, the girl alleged that on Jan. 4 she and a 17-year-old girl were at the Thomas home.

The 16-year-old girl reportedly told Jackson she engaged in oral sex with Hughes and the 17-year-old engaged in oral sex with Thomas. The 16-year-old reportedly told Jackson she and the 17-year-old were under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

During the search warrant's execution at Thomas' home, TBI agents photographed Thomas' bathrooms to compare with the background of the nude pictures of the 16-year-old girl.

Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned at the Bradley County Criminal Court March 30.

Hughes is scheduled to be arraigned at the Bradley County Criminal Court March 2.

According to Tennessee law, if Hughes and Thomas are convicted they will have to register annually with the state of Tennessee as sex offenders.

Hughes and Thomas continue to be investigated by the TBI, Hughes in connection with the shooting of a city police officer and Thomas for selling prescription painkillers.

According to reports, on Nov. 30, 2008, city police officer Chris Mason and former city police officer Jonathan Hammons, 23, -- who were on duty -- were at the home of Hughes, who was off duty, shortly before midnight.

The men were reportedly looking at a .38 caliber revolver which was possibly for sale. During the handling of the firearm the gun discharged and struck Mason in the hand, Cleveland Police Chief Wes Snyder said in a December 2008 statement.

The incident was initially reported as an accidental shooting; however, after further investigation it was determined Hammons and Hughes allegedly gave investigators false information.

Hammons was arrested Dec. 17, 2008, and was charged with aggravated perjury and filing a false report in connection to the shooting.

Hughes was arrested Dec. 18, 2008, and was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, aggravated perjury and filing a false report in connection to the shooting.

On the night of the shooting, Nov. 30, 2008, officers found a prescription pill bottle with Thomas' name in Hughes' personal vehicle.

As a result of the shooting investigation, Hughes resigned from the Cleveland Police Department in December 2008.

Hammons and Thomas were dismissed from the department in January.

Thomas was arrested Jan. 5, in connection with a two-year investigation by the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force.

As a result of the investigation, Thomas was charged with prescription fraud, possession of Schedule II and III narcotics for resale and simple possession of a Schedule V narcotic.

According to reports, the Drug Task Force's investigation alleges Thomas was a patient of Dr. James Wallace Sego. Thomas was allegedly prescribed 6,000 oxycodones, 1,100 hydrocodones and 790 Xanax within one year's time by Sego.

Thomas is being accused of selling the prescription painkillers.

Sego practices internal medicine and pain management at Bradley Executive Plaza located at 1510 Stuart Road N.E.

Sego was also arrested Dec. 18, 2008, and charged with felony counts of illegally selling prescription painkillers and other drugs.

Agents with the 10th Judicial Drug Task Force served a search warrant for Thomas' residence on Dec. 12, 2008.

According to the inventory on the search warrant, agents found "a large cardboard box with extremely large amounts of various drugs, samples, etc. (too numerous to list individually)," weapons, syringes and cell phones.

"One white plastic snorting device (ink pen) with yellow residue" was found in the master bedroom in a decorative drawer near the top of the dresser, along with several other items, such as "one prescription box w/1 glass vial inside labeled DEPO-Testosterone."

Among the weapons were two .22-caliber Glenfield rifles, one with a serial number and one without, and a Sig Sauer P2229 .40 caliber.

Phoenix Officer Arrested for Sexual Exploitation of Minor

Phoenix, AZ

Veteran police officer Richard Michael Polk has been arrested following an investigation into Internet child pornography. Officer Polk is a 26-year veteran officer who is currently a homicide detective.

Court documents say investigators found downloaded videos at Officer Polk’s home depicting children, under the age of 15, engaging in various sex acts. Online banking services were linked to purchases of child pornography, police said. He also used online file sharing service to distribute images.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement initially became aware of Polk's activities through their cyber crimes enforcement. They shared information with Phoenix Police officers, who continued to investigate through their internal affairs department. Phoenix Police's investigation leading up to Polk's arrest lasted six months.

A search of his Surprise home Wednesday revealed several removable thumb drives with about 20 videos, half of which showed children no older than 15 in various sexual acts, the court documents said.

The drives, along with computers and other evidence seized during the search, will undergo further analysis as the investigation continues. Thorough investigation is necessary when technology is involved, Gonzales said. The department also applies a high standard of scrutiny when dealing with its employees.

“We take every investigation seriously,” Gonzales said. “He was treated as any other citizen would be treated in the circumstances of the investigation.”

He has been released on a $250,000 bond, but must stay away from minors and may only see his own child under supervision.
