A former West Virginia small-town police officer was arrested Friday, accused of breaking his daughter's ex-boyfriend’s lower jaw during a January altercation.
William G. George, 41, of Bonita Springs, was charged with felony aggravated battery. He was released on pre-trial supervision. George was employed by Reedsville Police Department and lists retirement on his arrest report.
According to Lee County Sheriff's Office reports:
On Jan. 19, George's daughter, whose name was not released, and the teenage boy met at Coconut Point Mall to exchange property after they split as a couple. George parked nearby and listened to the conversation through a cell phone. The boy said he heard tires screeching, saw George get out of the car and then hit him repeatedly in the head. The boy got George to the ground, but a friend who was waiting nearby told the boy to let the 6-foot-tall, 220 pound former cop up. George left.
At first the boy and his mother, Keri G. Snider, 41, did not want to press charges. But the boy began having face and head pains. He sought medical attention and the broken mandible was found.
On Friday, George went to the Lee County Jail and surrendered.

Officer Denver Thomas Indicted for Sexual Contact with Teen
Ripley City Council unanimously voted Wednesday night to terminate Officer Denver Thomas.
That happened after Ripley Police Chief Raymond Fridley recommended that Thomas be dismissed from the police force. His termination is effective immediately.
Thomas had been indicted earlier Wednesday by a Jackson County grand jury. The indictment alleges he had sexual contact with a teenager in 2008.
Thomas has been on paid leave from the department since September 2009.
No other information is being released because the case involves an underage child.

Former Officer Christopher Dunbar Charged with Stabbing Man
A former Winchester (Va.) Police Department officer has been charged with stabbing a man at his home, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.
Christopher Andrew Dunbar, 25, of 590 Platt Mountain Lane near Inwood, W.Va., was arraigned Friday by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on one count of malicious wounding.
When Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies went to Dunbar’s home at 2:23 a.m. Friday, they found Dunbar, a man with cuts to his right hand and neck, and a female applying pressure to the wounds to stop the bleeding, according to a complaint by Deputy Caleb Pearson.
Dunbar told police he understood his rights because he “used to be a cop in Winchester,” and he apologized for having to call the police to his residence for “small stuff like this,” according to Pearson’s complaint.
In a City of Winchester news bulletin in January 2009, Dunbar was listed as one of seven police officers to graduate in November 2008 from Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy’s law enforcement basic academy. Upon graduation, Dunbar was recognized for placing second in physical fitness, according to the bulletin

FBI Officer Charles Homemma Found Guilty of Watching Girls in Dressing Room
After a daylong bench trial Marion County Magistrate Hank Middlemas found FBI Police Officer Charles Homemma, of Buckhannon guilty of invasion of privacy and not guilty of conspiracy.
Middlemas sentenced Hommema to six months in prison, then suspended that sentence and placed Hommema on a year of probation.
Hommema will also have to pay a $250 fine plus arrest fees and court costs.
Hommema and another officer, Gary Sutton Jr., of New Milton, were arrested in April for using a security camera to watch girls in a dressing room, during the Cinderella Project event held at the Middletown Mall on April 4.
Between 9:34 a.m. and 11 a.m. they pointed the FBI security cameras used in the mall at one of five makeshift dressing rooms set up for the event, court documents say, and caught one of the young women topless.
Sutton pleaded guilty to conspiracy on Nov. 3, and was sentenced to six months on probation.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department arrested the men.
The FBI declined to comment on either man's employment status.
"I spoke to our attorneys and was advised that, until we get the official documentation from the court, we are precluded, by Department of Justice guidelines, from making any comment," said Stephen Fischer
However, an FBI Agent testified during the trial that Sutton resigned his position and Hommema has had his clearance pulled.

Conley pleaded guilty to the charge of deprivation of rights under the color of law. The charge is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum prison sentence of one year and a fine.
The charge stems from an incident that happened in Dunbar in the summer of 2009 while he was working as a police officer.
According to court documents, Conley pulled the woman over and then without reason searched her. During the search, he fondled her private parts for "personal gratification."
During this illegal search, Conley found a small amount of marijuana. He placed the woman under arrest and handcuffed her. But court documents show he offered to let her go if she had sex with him.
Conley then drove the woman to a remote location where they had sexual intercourse. He then let the woman go without charging her.
Conley has resigned from the Dunbar Police Department.
He will be sentenced on March 18, 2010.

Former Officer Matthew Leavitt Sentenced to Two Years in Federal Prison
A former Montgomery police officer was sentenced Thursday to spend two years in federal prison after an earlier guilty plea of violating the civil rights of a mixed race couple.
Matthew Leavitt, 31, of South Charleston was also sentenced to two years of supervised release following his prison term.
U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin called the case "disturbing" and said Leavitt's behavior "shocked my conscience."
Leavitt arrested Lauren Reynolds on Sept. 26, 2008 and charged her with DUI even though a Breathalyzer test showed she didn't have any alcohol in her system. He also admitted to striking Twan Reynolds several times with a slapjack, an unauthorized weapon, using unreasonable force.
Judge Goodwin said at Thursday's sentencing that more than 20 complaints had been filed against Leavitt alleging illegal searches and arrests. Black men made the complaints or white women who were dating black men.
Leavitt had to surrender his law enforcement certification as part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
Goodwin also said during the hearing that Leavitt “terrorized” the victims’ family, “disgraced his uniform,” and “harmed the community” by diminishing the community’s trust in the police.

Former Officer Robert Miller Charged with Scamming People
A former South Charleston police officer now finds himself in trouble with the law. Charleston Police arrested Robert Earl Miller Thursday and charged him with impersonating a police officer.
It has been more than ten years since Miller served on the South Charleston force but Charleston police say he is guilty of scamming people out of money.
