Officals say 27 year old Danson Cappo was arrested for alleged family abuse on Sunday.

He was released on  a $1000 bail.

Deputy Edwin Salinda Charged with Child Sexual Assault

A sheriff's deputy is behind bars Tuesday after he was charged with six counts of sexual assault on a child. According to court documents, the alleged incidents happened from 1992 to 1996.

A woman says that Edwin Salinda sexually assaulted her on at least 30 separate occasions when she was between the ages of six and eight.

Salinda was first arrested on November 9, 2009 but was released. At the time, he was put on leave without pay. He has subsequently been suspended.

Salinda has been with the sheriff's department for approximately 18 years. His bail has been set at $100,000.

Officer Shayne Souza Pleads Not Guilty to Possessing Marijuana

A Honolulu police officer arrested in Las Vegas for possessing less than an ounce of marijuana and obstructing a public officer is pleading not guilty.

Shayne Souza's lawyer entered his plea Thursday in a Las Vegas court. Souza wasn't present and wasn't required to be.

The 47-year-old Souza allegedly ran from a Las Vegas Parks Police officer on Aug. 15.

Also arrested were a fellow officer, 37-year-old Kevin Fujioka, and a Honolulu social worker, 38-year-old Scott Wilson.

A not guilty plea also was entered for Wilson on Thursday. Fujioka is to enter a plea on Nov. 16. Non-jury trials are scheduled for Souza on Nov. 18 and for Wilson on Feb. 9.

Souza and Fujioka have been suspended and placed on administrative leave without pay.

Former Officer Joseph Bonachita Arrested for Burglary

A former Kauai police officer has been arrested on burglary, terroristic threats and weapons charges.

Forty-one-year-old Joseph Bonachita is out on $25,000 bail after being arrested earlier this week. Authorities have provided few details about the case.

Bonachita declined to comment.

The former officer also was the subject of a temporary restraining order filed by a woman shortly before she was found dead outside her Puhi home Aug. 17.

Police initially said they believed foul play was involved in 27-year-old Lauren Kagawa’s death but later determined it was a lethal mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol. They say they’re still investigating.

Bonachita, who Kagawa alleged had sexually assaulted her, has not been named as a suspect in the case, but police say they haven’t ruled him out.

Officers Kevin Fujioka & Shayne Souza Arrested

Two Honolulu law enforcers in Las Vegas to play in a softball tournament for police and firefighters were arrested on marijuana charges after leading authorities on a short chase.

Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling said officers Kevin Fujioka, 37, and Shayne Souza, 47, were arrested Saturday night near Desert Breeze Park, about six miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Scott Wilson, a 38-year-old social worker from Honolulu, also was arrested, Welling said Monday.

Park police approached the men in a white van because it was parked sideways across two spots in the parking lot, Welling said. As officers approached, the van drove off.

After a short pursuit, Souza and Fujioka got out of the van and ran from police, authorities said. Welling said officers pepper-sprayed Souza when he resisted arrest.

All three men were charged with marijuana possession, Welling said. Fujioka also was charged with driving under the influence of a narcotic, and Souza was charged with drug paraphernalia possession, resisting a police officer and obstruction of justice. Wilson was charged with having an open alcohol container in a vehicle, Welling said.

Michelle Yu, spokeswoman for the Honolulu Police Department, confirmed that the agency has two officers with the same names as Fujioka and Souza, but she said the department had not heard about the arrests and could not immediately comment.

Yu said Fujioka is a patrol officer who has worked at the department 13 years, while Souza is a SWAT officer who has been with the department 20 years.

Welling said the men identified themselves as police officers from the Hawaii city.

Tom Wagner, president of the Nevada Police Athletic Federation, said the arrests happened during a men's softball tournament that was part of the 2009 Nevada Police & Fire Games. The five-day event of various sports and games involves about 2,000 police and firefighters from across the country, Wagner said.

He called the arrests "shocking" and said it's possible that the players and their team would not be invited to return to the games.

"It's unfortunate but we definitely are going to be speaking to that coach and that police department and getting the story and deciding what our action will be as a federation," Wagner said.

Officer Gary Schemper Arrested for Drunk Driving

A former Maui police officer, who was on administrative leave from the department when he was arrested last year for driving drunk, had his license suspended for 90 days and was ordered Thursday to pay $637 in fines and fees.

Gary R. Schemper, 26, was pulled over around 2:10 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2008, after a police officer saw him driving "at a high rate of speed" on Piilani Highway in Kihei, according to court records.

The officer said the vehicle sped up at the intersection of Lipoa Street and Piilani Highway in order to beat a red light.

Schemper was observed driving at no less than 78 miles per hour, with the officer having to drive up to 90 miles per hour to catch up with the car.

When stopped, police observed Schemper with red, watery eyes, slurred speech and having an "overwhelming odor of liquor" on his breath.

Schemper told the police officer that he had a few beers at the Tiki Lounge in Kihei and he was on his way home.

Schemper's blood-alcohol level was at 0.145 percent. The legal limit is 0.08.

When Schemper was arrested, the arresting officer learned from dispatchers that he was on administrative leave from the Maui Police Department pending an internal investigation, according to court records.

Maui Police administrative officials confirmed Thursday that Schemper is no longer with the department, but would not discuss other details of his employment.

Schemper pleaded guilty to the driving under the influence charge in April, said Deputy Prosecutor Marie Kosegarten outside of court. She said Schemper also admitted to speeding.

Wailuku District Court Judge Kelsey Kawano waived the requirement for Schemper to appear in court. Schemper no longer resides in Hawaii, attorneys said.

In court Thursday, Kawano said Schemper will have his license suspended "absolutely" for 30 days, but for the following 60 days he will be able to drive, if needed, to and from work and substance-abuse treatment.

Kawano also ordered Schemper to undergo a substance-abuse evaluation and a driver's-education course, both of which he already has completed.

Schemper previously was ordered to pay $202 in fines and fees for speeding, according to court records.

Kosegarten said these were Schemper's first offenses for drunken driving and speeding.
