Officer Salvador Becerra Arrested For Two Felonies

An Odessa Police officer finds himself on the other side of the law after being arrested for two felonies on Thursday.

Odessa Police Officer Salvador Becerra was charged and arrested with two counts of violations of the civil rights of a person in custody and improper sexual activity with a person in custody.

We’re told that back on March 10, a citizen reported to Odessa Police that an officer conducted himself inappropriately during a traffic stop. Officials say an inquiry into the matter was quickly conducted and lead them to Becerra.

The inquiry produced sufficient evidence for Police Chief Timothy Burton to order an administrative investigation into possible criminal conduct by Becerra.

Odessa Police said in a press release, “The behavior Becerra is alleged to have engaged in is unprofessional and illegal. It will not be tolerated by the Odessa Police Department officers who do their best each day to keep the City of Odessa safe. These actions are not a reflection of the entire department and in no way are they indicative of high standards of professionalism and integrity exhibited by the Odessa Police Department.”

A pre-disciplinary hearing has been scheduled for Becerra on Monday and a disciplinary hearing will be held on Wednesday.

We’re told that Becerra was hired by Odessa Police back in February of 2012.

The Texas Rangers are continuing their investigation.

An investigation was conducted, and the deputy was fired prior to his arrest.

Officials say Barker had been employed with sheriff's office since October 2007.

He was assigned as a shift corporal in security at the parish prison.

Corrections Officer James Howard Accused of Sexually Assaulting Prisoners

MILWAUKEE

An officer at the Milwaukee County House of Corrections is accused of sexually assaulting two female prisoners in their cells.

The complaint filed yesterday charges 28-year-old James Howard with two counts of second-degree sexual assault of an inmate by a correctional officer and two counts of third-degree sexual assault.

Both of the women are being held in custody while awaiting trial in felony cases.

They told authorities the assaults happened last Saturday. In both cases, they alleged the officer first approached the cell and slid a suggestive note under the door, then returned a short time later and committed the assault.

A preliminary hearing for Howard is scheduled next Thursday.

Corrections officer accused of touching female inmates

KS

A corrections officer who worked in the Saline County Jail was fired and arrested Monday after he was accused of touching three female inmates.

Eric A. Taylor, 27, Bridgeport, had worked for the Sheriff’s Office for two years, but Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said he did not believe this had been a pattern of behavior.

“As far as we know, this was a one-time event,” he said. “It’s something that should never happen, but it happens.”

Kochanowski said the three inmates were housed together. Taylor allegedly touched them in a sexual way on June 24. When the sheriff’s office received information about the allegations, an internal affairs investigation and a sheriff’s office criminal investigation were launched simultaneously.

Taylor turned himself in and bonded out immediately, Kochanowski said.
