A former West Virginia small-town police officer was arrested Friday, accused of breaking his daughter's ex-boyfriend’s lower jaw during a January altercation.
William G. George, 41, of Bonita Springs, was charged with felony aggravated battery. He was released on pre-trial supervision. George was employed by Reedsville Police Department and lists retirement on his arrest report.
According to Lee County Sheriff's Office reports:
On Jan. 19, George's daughter, whose name was not released, and the teenage boy met at Coconut Point Mall to exchange property after they split as a couple. George parked nearby and listened to the conversation through a cell phone. The boy said he heard tires screeching, saw George get out of the car and then hit him repeatedly in the head. The boy got George to the ground, but a friend who was waiting nearby told the boy to let the 6-foot-tall, 220 pound former cop up. George left.
At first the boy and his mother, Keri G. Snider, 41, did not want to press charges. But the boy began having face and head pains. He sought medical attention and the broken mandible was found.
On Friday, George went to the Lee County Jail and surrendered.

Officer Anthony Abbate Found Guilty of Beating Female Bartender
The Chicago Police Board has fired the officer whose 2007 beating of a female bartender was captured by a surveillance camera and shown around the world.
The board's decision Tuesday to fire Anthony Abbate comes about six months after a judge found him guilty of a felony count of aggravated battery. He was sentenced to two years probation, anger management classes and ordered to perform 130 hours of community service.
At the time of his conviction, Abbate's lawyer says it meant that he could no longer serve as a police officer. But under Chicago Police Department rules, only the police board can fire an officer.

Correctional Officer Everette Brown Arrested for Hitting Inmate with Belt
A Concordia Parish Correctional Facility officer was arrested and charged with aggravated battery and malfeasance in office following a weekend incident in which he allegedly struck an inmate on the buttocks with his belt.
In a news release Monday, Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said Officer Everette Brown, 44, of Vidalia was arrested and immediately terminated following an investigation of the alleged incident, which happened Saturday.
The inmate, who was in lockdown for disciplinary reasons, reportedly called Brown a derogatory name, to which Brown allegedly responded by opening the cell door, taking off his belt and striking the inmate, the release said.
The release said the inmate was later checked by CPCF medical personnel and found to have only minor bruises.
“It’s not the extent of the injury as much as it’s the fact that an officer responded like this,” Maxwell said. “It just won’t be tolerated. There absolutely will not be any mistreatment of inmates.”
Such a response is against both prison policy and common sense, Maxwell said.
Brown was employed at CPCF for approximately six months, but Maxwell said it would not have mattered if the officer had been employed for six hours or six years, because his alleged response was intolerable.”
“If you cannot handle someone calling you names, then you just don’t belong in this business, and you certainly cannot work for the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Facility,” Maxwell said. “It’s just plain wrong, and you don’t need to work here.”
“That’s why we’ve never had the reputation of this sort of thing, because we will not stand for it.”
Two investigators are assigned to the incident, and the release said the investigation is ongoing.

Deputy Gladys Dauphin Arrested for Attacking Inmate

For the second time in less than a week, a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested and charged with criminal misconduct while on-duty.
Detention deputy Gladys Dauphin was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery and official misconduct after an internal investigation found that she attacked an inmate with her portable radio and then tried to cover up the incident.
BSO announced the charges Thursday, one day after Dauphin was arrested by Internal Affairs investigators.
The alleged attack happened about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 20 inside inmate Darryl Cunningham's cell in the Broward main jail, according to an arrest affidavit filed by Detective Joe Kessling.
`DISFIGUREMENT'
The affidavit states that Dauphin, 37, entered Cunningham's cell to talk to him because he had disrespected her.
She had Cunningham sit on his bed and then struck him several times toward the back of his head with her police radio, he told investigators.
``The injuries resulted in permanent scarring and disfigurement,'' Kessling wrote in the report.
Cunningham, 25, received five staples in the jail infirmary after the incident to close a laceration.
``I got him,'' Dauphin allegedly said to Sgt. Edward Pierce after the incident.
Dauphin then tried to cover up the attack, using another deputy's identity to falsify jail records to show that Cunningham refused treatment after falling, according to the affidavit.
BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said the attack was reported on the day in which it occurred. Dauphin, who was hired in December of 2004, was placed on suspension with pay the day of the incident and throughout the following investigation.
SUSPENDED
Dauphin bonded out of jail Wednesday on $6,100 and has been suspended without pay.
She did not respond to a message left on her voicemail late Thursday afternoon.
Cunningham, who was in jail after being picked up on several warrants filed by Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale police, was released to the custody of the U.S. Marshals on March 6.
He is currently being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami on charges of felony possession of a firearm, U.S. Marshals spokesman Barry Golden said.
Dauphin's arrest comes three days after Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti held a news conference to announce the arrest of Deputy Jonathan Bleiweiss, who is charged with more than a dozen counts of battery, sexual battery, stalking and false imprisonment.
Investigators say Bleiweiss, who in March was honored as employee of the year for the Broward Sheriff's Office's Oakland Park District, preyed on undocumented immigrants, molesting them while on duty.
Bleiweiss' attorney has said there is no reason to believe the accusations against the deputy.
`ARRESTING OUR OWN'
Coleman-Wright said Thursday that the arrested deputies shouldn't be a black eye for the sheriff's office.
``We're certainly disappointed by these two arrests but it also shows the public that we're dedicated to holding people responsible for actions even if it means arresting our own,'' she said.

Border Protection Officer Edwin Barbo Accused of Stalking
A judge on Monday continued a protective order against a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer accused of stalking a woman, jamming a pistol into her chest and threatening to kill her.
Edwin Barbot, 46, is accused of harassing the 47-year-old woman at her work and home. He was arrested in November on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated stalking and battery.
Last month, an Osceola County judge granted a temporary order against Barbot. On Monday, a circuit court judge continued the order until after Barbot's criminal trial, which is scheduled to begin April 21 in Osceola County.
Barbot was suspended from his Customs job at Orlando International Airport, agency spokeswoman Maria M. Alvarado said.
In mid-November, the woman told Osceola County deputy sheriffs that Barbot followed her home and argued with her outside her apartment. Barbot told the woman "that she better not be with anyone else or he will kill her," a sheriff's report said.
The woman told deputies that Barbot pulled at her, causing her to fall on the steps, and then "jammed" a semiautomatic pistol into her chest. The woman said he stood over her and said, "I want to kill you."
When the woman screamed, Barbot ran to his car and drove away, according to the report.
In hs report, the deputy noted that he saw a small, red circular mark on the woman's chest. Barbot was arrested Nov. 19 and released from the Osceola County Jail the same day on $5,500 bond.
In a written statement filed in court, the woman said Barbot put his gun in her mouth when she told him she was going to get a restraining order.
"He will kill me, he promised he would!" the woman wrote.
The woman stated she is "so afraid," she can't sleep, is having trouble concentrating and feels as though she's being followed. She said Barbot harassed her at work while wearing his federal uniform and carrying his badge and gun.
In her court filing for the protective order, the woman also stated that Barbot had an incident with another woman in January at work while he was on administrative duty. She gave no details about that allegation.
Alvarado said she couldn't comment on any allegations made against Barbot because he is under investigation.

Officer Vally Getejanc Accused of Abuse Twice
DAVIE
Five months before a rookie police officer was charged with aggravated battery on his pregnant wife, an ex-girlfriend made similar accusations of abuse.
The wife of Officer Vally Getejanc, 25, told Davie police he held a gun to her head on one occasion and threw her to the ground on another. Davie officers arrested Getejanc on Feb. 27 after his wife called 911.
In October, Getejanc's ex-girlfriend, Casey-Lyn Bird, sought a restraining order against him, claiming the two had a three-year relationship marked by a "history of violence." Her request, denied by a judge two weeks later, triggered an Internal Affairs investigation into whether Getejanc had engaged in conduct unbecoming an officer.
Bird, 27, claimed Getejanc had punched, choked, kicked and head-butted her during their relationship and sent her a threatening text message in October. She also told Internal Affairs he once threatened to shoot her in the head. Getejanc admitted he and his ex-girlfriend had a "tumultuous" relationship but denied ever hitting her.
On Feb. 28, the day after Getejanc's arrest in the battery case involving his wife, Police Chief Patrick Lynn cleared him in the Internal Affairs case involving his ex-girlfriend, citing a lack of evidence.
"One case doesn't have anything to do with the other," Lynn said.
Getejanc, hired in March 2007, is on paid administrative leave from his $53,644-a-year job pending the outcome of the battery case. He declined to comment through his attorney, Anthony Livoti.
Livoti called his client a "really good guy" and questioned both women's version of events.
"I'm just saying that when emotions are involved, the facts oftentimes get lost," Livoti said. "If someone puts a gun to your head, do you marry them?" he said of Getejanc's wife, who requested her name not be published.
Getejanc's wife, 25, told detectives the two argued on Feb. 27 after he complained she'd spent too much time visiting her mother. Getejanc, while in uniform, wrapped his right forearm around her neck and threw her to the ground, according to the police report. The two had been married just four days and the wife was five months pregnant, the report says.
On Feb. 3, according to police records, Getejanc put his duty weapon to his wife's head and said "Say one more f------ word and I will shoot you!"
Getejanc's wife obtained a restraining order against him on March 2.
"She is afraid of him" and plans to file for divorce, said her attorney, Greg Lauer. "She wants nothing to do with him."
Lauer said the 911 tape speaks for itself and questioned whether Getejanc should be entrusted with police work.
"There are certain people who don't need a badge and a gun and he may be one of them," Lauer said. "If he did these things, he most definitely should not be a police officer."
Bird declined to comment on her former boyfriend, saying she wanted to move on with her life.
On Oct. 21, Judge Jack Tuter denied her request for a restraining order against Getejanc. The officer told the judge he never hit Bird and showed messages she had sent days after an argument professing her love and asking him to stay in the relationship. He also claimed she was jealous of his new girlfriend.

Three Chicago Officers Accused of Aggravated Battery
CHICAGO
Prosecutors accused three Chicago police officers of beating and covering up instead of serving and protecting as their trial got under way in Cook County Circuit Court.
The three officers, who were off-duty at the time, are accused of attacking two brothers while they played pool with friends. The fight was caught on tape by surveillance cameras at the Jefferson Tap & Grille.
Assistant State's Attorney LuAnn Snow on Monday said the two victims kept asking what was going on as they were attacked. However, defense attorneys said it was Barry and Aaron Gilfand who were the aggressors in the brawl.
Officers Paul Powers, Gregory Barnes and Sgt. Jeffery Planey are charged with aggravated battery. Planey is also accused of official misconduct.
