An Elmore police officer and humane society volunteer has denied threatening members of a horse rescue group last month on his Facebook page.
Shaun Harder, 23, Elmore, pleaded not guilty today to one misdemeanor count of aggravated menacing in Ottawa County Municipal Court. He was released on a recognizance bond and will have a pre-trial next month, said his attorney, Tom DeBacco of Port Clinton.
Harder is charged with posting a message on Facebook that threatened Arabian Horse Rescue, a group that has on-going disagreements with the Humane Society of Ottawa County over malnourished horses the humane society confiscated in January from Robin Vess’ Carroll Township farm.
“The horses need ppl (sic.) like us; the Arabian rescue group needs to be slaughtered like livestock,” authorities allege Harder wrote.
Authorities arrested Harder Friday, and he spent the weekend in jail, said Detective Amy Harrell of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
This comes after the FBI agents from Toledo investigated the posting when ARM’s attorney, Leonard Yelsky of Toledo, called them and reported it, she said. They decided not to charge him federally and turned the case over to the sheriff’s office.

Officer Derrick Saunders Points Weapon on McDonalds Employee
A Denver police officer faces felony menacing and weapons charges based on an allegation he pointed a pistol to speed up his order at an Aurora McDonald's in May.
An employee at the McDonald's at 18181 E. Hampden Ave. told investigators two Denver police officers were waiting for their order at the drive-through window in the early-morning hours when Derrick Curtis Saunders, 29, grew impatient and pulled a weapon.
In addition to the menacing and weapons charges, Saunders is also charged with prohibited use of a weapon, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, the Aurora Police Department said Monday.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said Saunders has been suspended with pay during the investigation, but would be put on unpaid leave once the department is formally notified of the charges.
Jackson said neither he nor Police Chief Gerald Whitman would comment on the case.
"It would be inappropriate for us to make any comment about another department's case, especially an ongoing, active investigation," Jackson said.
Saunders was most recently assigned to Denver International Airport. His booking photograph was not available from Aurora police Monday.

Officer Scott Lanner Arrested for Meancing and False Imprisonment

COLORADO SPRINGS
An employee of Colorado Springs Police has been arrested Friday for what police say stems from an off duty incident in Widefield on August 6th.
Police say 46-year-old Scott Alan Lanner drew his pistol on a man who was inspecting roofs for hail damage. Lanner was booked into the county jail on suspicion of menacing, a felony, and false imprisonment, a misdemeanor, according to jail records.
The report says Lanner came across Patrick Wilson, an employee of Claims Specialist International, working in his neighborhood. He ordered Wilson to leave the neighborhood because he did not have a permit althought they are not required for the work, the affidavit said. Lanner than drew his weapon on Wilson after he dropped his hands to his lap. Wilson was handcuffed and searched.
Colorado Springs Police say they will remain neutral as the charge plays through the judicial system. Lanner, who has worked for the CSPD since April of 1995, has been placed on un-paid administrative leave by the department until the case is resolved.
Police are planning an internal investigation into the matter after the judicial proceedings.
