Officer Naaman Adcock Arrested for Holding Gun to 5-year-old's Head

A Fort Smith police officer who was arrested after Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office deputies said he fired a gun inside his home and held a gun to a five-year-old's head has resigned.

Naaman Adcock resigned from the Fort Smith Police Department early Wednesday, according to KFSM, the CBS affiliate in Fort Smith.

Adcock was arrested Tuesday on complaints of suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, reckless conduct with a firearm, felonious pointing a firearm and child endangerment.

Deputies also arrested his wife, Tabatha Adcock, on complaints of failure to protect a child, child endangerment, possession of a firearm while intoxicated and reckless conduct with a firearm.

The sheriff's office told KFSM both fired guns inside their rural Sequoyah County home with at least two children inside.

Deputies confiscated nine guns found in the home.

KFSM says Fort Smith Police had placed Adcock on administrative leave with pay while the department conducted an internal investigation.

Jail records show Naaman Adcock's bond was set at $24,000, while Tabatha Adcock's bond was $14,000.

Sheriff Ron Lockhart says their report has been turned over the Sequoyah County district attorney's office.

New Jersey Officer Steven Vigorito Jr Charged with Texting Child Explicit Photos

A New Jersey police officer has been arrested and charged after he allegedly pursued sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl, texting her explicit photos of himself in uniform.

According to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Woodland Park Police Officer Steven Vigorito Jr. was charged with attempted aggravated assault, luring and enticing a child, attempted endangering of a child, attempted sex assault and official misconduct.

Investigators said, Vigorito met the girl after responding to a domestic dispute at a home in Woodland Park on April 23. While at the scene, the officer gave the girl his personal cell phone number.

The 12-year-old victim immediately alerted her mother who in turn told authorities.

In the following days, detectives posed as the girl and reached out to Vigorito which prompted several explicit text messages from the 39-year-old officer, including photos where he's in uniform and exposing himself. Officials say some of the photos are believed to have been taken at the station house.

When Vigorito attempted to lure the girl to a location for sex, undercover officers went in and arrested him, officials said.

Vigorito, a 12-year veteran with the Woodland Park Police Department, was arrested Tuesday night while on duty. He was arraigned Wednesday and remains in custody with a $250,000 bond.

"The person called to assist the family, ended up preying on the family," Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said a press conference Wednesday.

Vigorito has been suspended without pay.

PIX 11 News paid a visit to Vigorito's Woodland Park home Tuesday afternoon. Two women slammed the door at first and quickly closed the garage doors before coming back outside.

"He's not that kind of guy, he's a good guy, he's a clean guy," said a woman who wouldn't identify herself. The home had toys and children's games on the front lawn, and the woman was holding a young child.

A part-time police officer has reportedly been charged for allegedly abusing his girlfriend's young children with a Taser-like weapon.

Kevin McCann, 47, of Lawrence Township, Ohio, has been charged with two counts of felonious assault and two counts of felony child endangering. McCann allegedly used a Taser-like weapon this on Christina Robinson's 3-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son, the Canton Repository reports.

Robinson, 22, also of Lawrence Township, is charged with four counts of felony child endangering.

Both suspects were arraigned Wednesday and denied all charges. They remain in the Stark County Jail with bond set at $500,000.

Howard Goldstein Arrested on Child Sex Charges

A 10-year-veteran advanced medical technician at the Nassau County Police Department tried to seduce an investigator posing as a 13-year-old girl through chats over the Internet, Nassau police said, adding that he sent explicit pictures and sexually graphic language during the exchanges.

Howard Goldstein, 38, is charged with eight counts of first-degree attempted disseminating indecent material to a minor and 11 counts of attempted endangering the welfare of a child.

He was being held on $82,500 cash bail or bond after he was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Thursday.

He pleaded not guilty. He was represented by the Legal Aid Society and is due back in court Monday.

Investigators said Goldstein thought he was communicating with a 13-year-old girl, but was actually corresponding with an officer.

The exchanges began in July last year with a New York State Police investigator in Albany. Nassau police arrested Goldstein Wednesday night.

"They were posing as a 13-year-old female and they got hits on this person," said Nassau police spokesman Det. Lt. Kevin Smith. "This particular unit scans the Internet for child predators. . . . That individual made sexually explicit comments via the Internet."

Goldstein, police said, eventually tried to arrange for the girl to take a Greyhound bus to Penn Station and then a Long Island Rail Road train to Rockville Centre.

He never followed through on the plan to meet the girl Tuesday, police said, but officers arrested him the next day.

"Subsequently that individual was locked up" after his ambulance bureau shift was finished and while he was on his way home from work, Smith said.

Sgt Steven Mark Flamm Arrrested for Shoplifting & Child Endangerment

A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant could face charges of grand theft and child endangerment in connection to the shoplifting of $790 in clothing from a store in Thousand Oaks, authorities said Tuesday.

Sgt. Steven Mark Flamm, 42, was booked into Ventura County Jail Monday after he turned himself in at the Thousand Oaks police station, said Detective Eric Buschow, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Flamm, of Simi Valley, came to the police station voluntarily after Ventura County sheriff’s investigators contacted him and explained he was a suspect in the theft of two jackets worth a total of $790 from the Nordstrom store at The Oaks, Buschow said.

Flamm was initially stopped by Nordstrom’s loss prevention officers outside the store after the alleged theft, which occurred on the afternoon of May 1.

A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene at 346 W. Hillcrest Drive, and decided, along with store officials, to release Flamm pending further investigation, Buschow said. Authorities determined they had probable cause to arrest Flamm after reviewing surveillance video and the circumstances of the incident, he said.

Flamm was booked into jail on suspicion of felony grand theft and misdemeanor child endangerment, Buschow said. The child endangerment charge relates to Flamm’s alleged use of his young daughter as a participant in the crime, he said.

The girl is younger than 10 years old, Buschow said. He declined to discuss the specifics of the girl’s alleged involvement in the theft.

Flamm was released from custody Monday on $10,000 bail, Buschow said. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Ventura County Superior Court on May 18.

He could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Flamm has been relieved of his law enforcement powers and placed on paid leave from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, said department spokesman Steve Whitmore.

If the Ventura County District Attorney charges Flamm with a felony, he will be placed on unpaid leave, Whitmore said.

Emphasizing that Flamm is presumed innocent until proven guilty, Whitmore said the allegations are disturbing.

Flamm will remain on leave until the criminal proceedings are concluded, Whitmore said. If he is found guilty, he could be fired.

A member of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department since 1988, Flamm recently worked in the department’s training bureau, Whitmore said.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeants can earn between $75,000 and $98,000 a year, plus overtime, according to documents posted on the county’s Web site.

Jevenile Detention Officer Parris Woods Arrested for Trying to Meet 14-year-old

Police have arrested a state juvenile detention officer after they say he tried to meet a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity.

The ninth-grader at Boca Ciega High School approached a school resource officer Wednesday morning and reported that Parris C. Woods, 27, sent her a text message with photos of himself nude and in obscene poses, police said.

The girl had never met Woods, a state employee with the Department of Juvenile Justice. But she had been incarcerated in July at the Pinellas Juvenile Detention Center in Largo where he works, said Lt. Robert Vincent of the Gulfport police.

Vincent said it's unclear whether there are more victims.

"It's kind of hard to tell. The man has access to all sorts of information and kids there where he works," Vincent said. "That's something we're looking into right now."

Police say Woods wanted to arrange a meeting with the girl, so they set up an appointment at a convenience store at 15th Avenue S and 58th Street. Police and officials from the attorney general's Tampa region cybercrime task force were waiting there to arrest Woods.

Woods, who has no prior criminal history in Florida, was charged with traveling to engage in sexual activity with a minor, providing harmful material to a minor and soliciting a minor for sexual activity.

Frank Penela, a spokesman for the Department of Juvenile Justice, said Woods was terminated as soon as the department heard of his arrest. Woods had worked there less than six months and was still on probation, so the department didn't need to follow a firing process, Penela said.

"We don't tolerate this," Penela said. "We do not want people like this taking care of our kids."

Deputy Michael James Arrested for Indecency

VALDOSTA, GA

A Lowndes County deputy is facing indecency charges after exposing himself to children. 38-year-old Michael Anthony James surrendered to authorities at the Valdosta Police Department Friday after warrants were issued for his arrest.

The incident happened September 11th in the 2500 block of Forrestwood Drive. Around 3:20 that afternoon, a child walking home from a bus stop reported seeing a naked man standing exposed in his front doorway.

"If a child sees anything like that, they should immediately report it to a responsible adult as these children did. And that way action can be taken immediately. These children did real good about telling a parent or another adult," said Lt. Bobbi McGraw with the Valdosta Police Department.

James was charged with two counts of public indecency. He was released on a two-thousand dollar bond.

Officer Ronald Whitworth to Remain in Jail Until Trial

A former Alabama police officer who fled to Washington state to avoid prosecution on federal charges he possessed child pornography and took a 9-year-old girl across state lines for sex will remain in jail until trial, a judge ruled this morning.

Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Greene said he found Ronald Whitworth, 35, a flight risk and a danger to the community and denied him bond during a detention hearing at Birmingham's federal courthouse.

Whitworth, a former Vestavia Hills and Anniston police officer, was captured Aug. 18 in Lynwood, Wash. In April, Shelby County investigators arrested Whitworth on charges of child endangerment, sexual abuse of a child under 12, rape and sodomy. He made bond after six days in jail.

A federal grand jury in Birmingham indicted Whitworth, who left the state before federal agents could arrest him on the charges.

His truck was found July 31 at the Birmingham International Airport containing guns and a note that law enforcement would not find him.

His attorney, citing Whitworth's safety while in jail because he is a former officer facing child abuse charges, suggested conditions could be made to allow Whitworth to be released on bond.

The judge said he believed Whitworth's safety could be maintained in jail.

Ex-Cop Arrested for Offering Money to Suck Underage Girls Toes

Former Munhall, PA police officer Michael Curtin has been charged with trying to solicit sex from several underage girls and offering them $1000 to suck their toes.

Curtin’s began hanging around the underage girls in January 2006, and also supplied alcohol to at least three teenage girls. The girls also accused Curtin of touching them inappropriately.

Using MySpace to contact more underage girls, Curtin would offer them $1000 to allow him to kiss their feet and suck their toes.

"The parent had felt that her daughter had some contact that she felt wasn't quite right with a person who they believed to be police officer in Munhall," said Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt.

In the MySpace postings, police said Curtin actually mentioned in one solicitation, "I'm a Munhall cop."

Curtin is charged with corruption of minors, unlawful contact with minors and criminal solicitation of indecent assault and prostitution from the MySpace probe of his alleged foot fetish.

That probe led to additional charges, involving corruption and the endangering of three additional underage girls. He's accused of indecent assault against two of them, and providing girls alcohol and letting them drive his car.

Former Steel Valley High School student Sarah Chalfont said she remembers when Curtin used to patrol outside of the school.

"He was really lurky. You know, he was always standing around and looking around at people and usually the cops that were up there weren't like that. You're taught to trust an officer and then for someone that you trust to hurt you and scar you for life like that, it's really sad."

As far as they know, police said they believe all of the alleged activity happened while Curtin was off duty.

In order to post bond, Curtin must first clear a screening by the jail's behavioral unit. The Munhall Borough Council voted unanimously to fire Curtin in February.

On Wednesday, Curtin's attorney said the officer's dismissal was partially related to the allegations that are surfacing now, but he declined to comment further.

Investigators suspect that some of the activity involving the girls occurred at Curtin's Munhall home, according to the complaint.

Curtin is currently being held in Allegheny County Jail on a bond of $100,000.
