A former Winchester (Va.) Police Department officer has been charged with stabbing a man at his home, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.
Christopher Andrew Dunbar, 25, of 590 Platt Mountain Lane near Inwood, W.Va., was arraigned Friday by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on one count of malicious wounding.
When Berkeley County Sheriff’s deputies went to Dunbar’s home at 2:23 a.m. Friday, they found Dunbar, a man with cuts to his right hand and neck, and a female applying pressure to the wounds to stop the bleeding, according to a complaint by Deputy Caleb Pearson.
Dunbar told police he understood his rights because he “used to be a cop in Winchester,” and he apologized for having to call the police to his residence for “small stuff like this,” according to Pearson’s complaint.
In a City of Winchester news bulletin in January 2009, Dunbar was listed as one of seven police officers to graduate in November 2008 from Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy’s law enforcement basic academy. Upon graduation, Dunbar was recognized for placing second in physical fitness, according to the bulletin
A City of Winchester official confirmed Friday that Dunbar no longer was employed with the police department.

Retired Officer Peter Meggett Accused of Stabbing Nephew
A retired police officer is accused of stabbing his nephew Thursday night during a domestic incident in downtown Charleston.
Harold N. Brown, 47, of Hanahan, told police that he was at his uncle's girlfriend's home on Ashley Avenue about 11 p.m., and there was an argument, a police report said.
It said Brown asked his uncle to leave, but the uncle went into the kitchen and returned with a knife.
Brown was stabbed in the right shoulder near the base of the neck, the report said. Both men required medical treatment, but their injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Brown was out of the hospital Friday and said he was OK.
Peter James Meggett, 63, of Ladson, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
On the report, his business address was listed as "retired police."
Brown said Meggett had been in the Marine Corps, during which time he served as a police officer at Charleston Naval Weapons Station in Goose Creek.
Meggett remained at the Charleston County Detention Center on Friday night. His bond is $20,000.

Deputy Robert McClain Arrested Attempted Murder
A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy arrested in Irvine for allegedly attacking his wife and a man he apparently believed to be her lover will be fired today, a sheriff's spokesman said.
Deputy Robert Avery McClain, 34, will be separated from the job he has held since November 2007 by the end of the business day, said Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
"Obviously, it was a very brutal attack, and the sheriff feels very strongly about it," Whitmore said.
McClain is also expected to be charged and make his initial appearance in a Newport Beach courtroom today for allegedly attacking his wife and the 23- year-old man, authorities said.
The woman was hurt in the attack but not as severely as the young man.
McClain was in custody in the Theo Lacy branch jail, where he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder and other crimes for allegedly attacking the man and stabbing him near the genitals.
Handfield took issue with press accounts describing the attack on the man as an attempted castration.
"He does have puncture wounds in the area of the groin, on the inside of his leg, but (a castration attempt) is a little too exaggerated for me," he said.
The victim was being kept in a medically induced coma and listed in stable condition, Handfield said.
The father of the injured man said that his son's face was beaten so severely that he could hardly recognize him. He said it was his "understanding" that the woman was trying to leave the deputy, who thought his wife was having an affair with his son.
McClain also allegedly attacked his wife, but police refused to identify her or say how she had been hurt.
Irvine police were sent to an apartment leasing office at 1000 Peyton on Monday in response to reports of an assault, which apparently took place there between 10:30 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday, Handfield said. The wife works in the office, and the male victim lives at the complex, according to police and published reports.

Correction Officer Steven Krause Accused of Stabbing Man
MATAMORAS, Pa.
A correction officer at the State Correctional Facility in Otisville has been arrested by Pennsylvania State Police and charged with stabbing a Port Jervis man.
Steven Carl Krause, 46, of Matamoras, is accused of stabbing Sean Patrick Conklin, 26, of Port Jervis early Wednesday morning outside Mr. Spanky’s bar in Dingman Township, Pa.
Police say Krause became angry when the bartender gave the last call for alcohol and spat a mouthful of beer at the bartender. Conklin, who police say had been arguing with Krause on and off through the evening, reportedly scolded him for being rude.
Krause then left the bar with Conklin following behind. Moments later, Conklin stumbled back into the bar yelling that he had been stabbed, police say.
Conklin was taken to Bon Secours Hospital in Port Jervis and underwent emergency surgery for a punctured intestine.
Krause was apprehended at his residence and sent to the Pike County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
