A corrections officer has been arrested on charges he stole a bottle of
insulin while on duty at the Houston County Jail. Bradley Adams, 33, was
arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of theft according to
Sheriff Andy Hughes.
“A nurse noticed the insulin missing from
the medical clinic at the jail and reported it,” Hughes said. “We
reviewed surveillance video and determined that Adams took the drug.”
The sheriff said Adams confessed to the crime when confronted. Hughes
said the officer, who had been working at the jail for about a year, was
terminated. No motive was revealed.
“I will not tolerate any abuse of the law,” said Hughes. “There is no room in this department for dishonesty.”

Former Officer Edmond Burke Accused of Selling Cocaine
The former Prichard police officer accused of selling cocaine and using his badge as a shield job has been indicted by a grand jury on drug charges.
Edmond Kennies Burke, 34, was arrested late Wednesday after being indicted on charges of trafficking and possessing cocaine, as well as possession of marijuana, stemming from an Aug. 2 sting operation.
According to an affidavit filed last year by a Homeland Security Investigations agent, Burke obtained 5 kilograms of cocaine and had marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a subsequent search of his house. It was alleged he made regular drug runs, carrying cocaine in his squad car.
He and another man, Raymond “Roc” Williams, were planning on selling the cocaine, obtained from a drug dealer cooperating with authorities.
The dealer told Williams he would receive $15,000 once the cocaine had been delivered, according to previous reports. Williams and Burke had done similar deals in the past, they said.
Court records alleged the pair had previously received $3,000 per kilogram and would only deliver larger amounts because they needed to split the payment.
The sting operation was a joint effort by federal agents and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office. Last year, Burke was subsequently charged in federal court, but was not indicted.
Burke will be arraigned before Mobile County Presiding Judge Charles Graddick on May 20. His bail was set at $20,000 on the trafficking charge, $7,500 for possession of cocaine and $500 for possession of marijuana.

Sgt. Jason Curry Arrested for Drug and Prostitution Charges
A sergeant with the Andalusia Police Department was arrested Wednesday night on multiple charges, including illegal drugs and promotion of prostitution.
Andalusia Mayor Earl Johnson and Interim Police Chief Paul Hudson identified the officer as Sergeant Jason Curry and say he was relieved of his duties following the arrest.
WSFA 12 News initially reported that Curry had been fired, but that is not accurate. Even though Curry has been relieved of his duties, Mayor Johnson says he must have a pre-determination hearing to determine if further disciplinary actions, including termination, are warranted.
Much of the details are still limited, as the investigation is ongoing. Officials with the ABC Board confirm they are investigating at the request of the Covington County District Attorney's office and assisted with the arrests.
Curry is charged with Distribution of Controlled Substances, Possession of Controlled Substances and Promotion of Prostitution. Curry's father, Otis "Randy" Curry, was also arrested and charged with two counts of Distribution of Controlled Substances.
Jason Curry's bond was set at $165,000. Otis Curry's bond was set at $200,000. Both have since posted bail and are currently out of jail.
Curry's pre-determination meeting could be held as early as next week.

Former Officer Faron White Expected to be Released from Prison
A Decatur police officer convicted of theft is expected to be released from federal prison at the end of the week. This Friday, Faron White will head home from a federal prison in Louisiana.
For 21 years, White fought crime in the city of Decatur.
"He was always the go-to guy. He always seem to know the answer," said John Bradford, who is now retired from the Decatur Police Department.
One day in January of 2009, White ended up on the wrong side of the law when he staged his own kidnapping with accomplice Sarah Richardson.
Bradford supervised White a few years before the incident.
"He was a great guy. It was just a total shock that he got involved with this," said Bradford.
Bradford believes White has some roads to mend when he gets out of prison. Namely, with the men and women who tirelessly searched for him.
"Those guys went at it 24-7, virtually not eating or sleeping, following every lead they could imagine in hopes of finding somebody they respected as a supervisor and a good friend. I hope he finds a way to somehow bring closure for those fellows for what he put them through," said Bradford.
Bradford hopes White will be able to land on his feet once he is released from prison. He'll have to find a job.
"To me, it's just obvious that the guy fell on some rough times, made some mistakes that snow balled on him and just got worse. It just got to the point that he couldn't get out of it and he did something very, very stupid," said Bradford.
White pleaded guilty to a federal theft charge for stealing $82,000 from the Decatur Police Department. A judge sentenced White to 16 months in prison.
He'll be getting out three months early, but will then be on supervised released for five years.
White's attorney, Jake Watson, says his client plans to get in the cabinet making business when he's released.

Former Officer Bob Ingle Convicted of Raping Child
A Mobile County Jury convicted a former Chickasaw Police Officer of sexually abusing his step-daughter. Bob Ingle was convicted of raping and sodomizing the 10-year-old. For Rebecca McEvoy's family, the verdict has been long overdue.
It took several years for the case to make it to a courtroom. But it took a jury less than two hours to find Bob Ingle guilty of raping and sodomizing his ten year old step daughter, Rebecca McEvoy.
It's a bitter sweet verdict for Rebecca's father.
"Been a long three years and Rebecca finally got justice, and took a pervert off the streets so other kids can be safe," said Aden McEvoy, Rebecca's father.
Rebecca died in a car accident in 2008, before the case could be heard. Her death played a part in the delay because in Alabama, a defendant has the right to cross examine a witness.
So, Assistant District Attorney Ella Byrd called on Rebecca's best friend, and Rebecca's sister to tell her story of sexual abuse. The state showed Rebecca shared with them, the horror she suffered at the hands of her step father.
"I didn't know what the verdict was going to be, if they were going to find him innocent, I didn't know how I would act. When they said guilty, all I could do was look up and say thank you Becca, thank you God," said Nina Tucker, Rebecca's sister.
Bob Ingle, now a convicted child rapist, faces life in prison for raping and sodomizing Rebecca. A little girl whom her father said had a contagious smile.
Ingle will be allowed to remain out on bond until a hearing in February. Judge Michael Youngpeter ordered Ingle to wear a monitoring device and have no contact with children. Ingle will be sentenced February 25, 2010.

Former Officer Ryan Moore Pleads Guilty to Possession of Marijuana
A former Huntsville Police Officer was sentenced after pleading guilty to possessing marijuana.
Court records showed a small amount of marijuana was found in an equipment bag inside the trunk of Ryan Moore's patrol car.
Moore resigned from the police department and pleaded guilty to charges on September 14th.
Moore, his attorney, prosecution and Moore's friends and family were given a chance to speak before sentencing.
Moore spoke on his own behalf telling the court, "I made a mistake. I didn't turn in the marijuana. I'm sorry to the Huntsville Police Department, my friends and family for dragging them into this. This was truly a misunderstanding."
Moore also explained it's been difficult to find a job with a pending felony charge.
Moore said he has applied to many places but was turned down when the employer found out about his criminal record.
Moore said he is now employed at Publix and found out Friday he passed his managers test.
Moore's friends and family testified Moore knew by 7th grade he wanted to become a police officer.
He graduated from Grissom High School, went on to graduate from Auburn, and then from the police academy.
His father, Douglas Moore told the judge, "I ask for mercy. Ryan has been punished enough. It's been 21 months since he was charged. He was forced to quit the police department."
Prosecutor Don Rizzardi said this has been a hard case.
"I feel Ryan fell under bad influence. He confessed, pled guilty. It takes a man to admit he was wrong. It doesn't make sense to me that he doesn't remember turning in 4 bags of marijuana in his car," he said.
Huntsville Police Internal Affairs Officer also stood before the court.
"It gave us cause for concern but I don't think Ryan Moore belongs in prison," he said.
During sentencing, Judge Karen Hall told Little, "This is not an easy case. I know from what I've read that you must be an upstanding person that made poor decisions. And it seems you were under the influence of a fellow officer whose record wasn't as clear."
Moore was sentenced to a five year split sentence.
He will serve six months at the Madison County jail in active work release.
He has until January 19th to turn himself in.
The balance of his sentence will be suspended. Then he will be placed on a 2 year probation.
The defense has 42 days to appeal.

Officer Jeff Redcross Accused of Theft
A Florence police officer who was terminated Monday was issued a summons Thursday to appear in Florence Municipal Court on a charge of theft of lost property, officials said.
Jeff Redcross, 38, is being represented by Florence attorney Tim Case. Case said the summons is not a warrant and Redcross was not arrested.
"It just summons him to appear in court on the allegations," Case said.
Florence Police Chief Rick Singleton said Redcross' termination had nothing to do with the summons. He said Redcross has filed an appeal with the city's civil service board and is on paid administrative leave while the appeals process continues.
The chief said his recommendation to terminate Redcross' employment was a result of an administrative hearing and was based on a violation of departmental rules not a violation of the law.
"My decision had nothing to do with the summons or what's going on with the court," Singleton said. "We have rules and they are to be followed."
According to the summons, which was issued by the municipal magistrate's office, Redcross is to appear at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Florence City Court.
The charge of third-degree theft of lost property is a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by a year in jail and a fine, if convicted.
A person with direct knowledge of the case said Tony Armstead is accusing Redcross of taking money that Armstead claims to have lost on the dance floor of a local nightclub.
According to an incident report filed at the Florence Police Department, the 38-year-old Florence man claimed $300 in $100 bills were taken from him at Side Pockets Billiards on Darby Drive between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Dec. 3-4. The report was filed Dec. 8.
Authorities said Redcross was off duty and was a customer at the business when the theft is supposed to have taken place.
"I've known Jeff Redcross for 17 years. He's enjoyed a good reputation as a UNA football standout, as a radio announcer and as a person in the community," said Case.
Case said this is the first time in his 17 years as a defense attorney that he has ever "defended or been confronted" with a charge like this.
"We look forward to defending this in court and based upon our initial investigations and interviewing the witnesses we have done so far, we feel like we should prevail and Jeff will and should be exonerated of these charges," Case said.
Case said he is also representing Redcross in the termination appeal process.
"We are anxious to present his case before the civil service board," Case said.
Redcross has been a member of the department for 17 years and has been a patrol sergeant for the past three years.

Officer Jonathan Pratt Arrested for Drug Possession
A reserve Athens police officer arrested over the weekend for drug possession is no longer with the force. The Athens Police Department removed Jonathan Pratt on Sunday. A Limestone County sheriff's deputy arrested Pratt on Saturday after a traffic stop.
The deputy stopped a car Pratt was riding in, and arrested him and the driver for possession of a controlled substance.
Athens reserve officers volunteer with the police department. They are not sworn officers. They work special events, wear a reserve officer badge, carry a gun, and sometimes drive a car. Most of the time, they ride with a police officer.
Athens Police Chief Wayne Harper says it's a shame what has happened.
Limestone County stopped the car Jonathan Pratt was a passenger in Saturday night. The deputy stopped the driver for speeding. Reports say the deputy then found prescription pills in the car.
"It's not a good thing, and it's embarrassing," said Harper. "Mr. Pratt's been with us for about a year. We did an in-depth background on him when we put him on our reserve unit and he checked out well."
Harper says Pratt had seemed like a good fit for the department.
"It's a bad situation," Harper said. "I wish it hadn't of happened."
Chief Harper says they had to take care of the situation.
"As soon as we found out we found out yesterday [Sunday], he was immediately relieved," said Harper. "He's no longer with the reserve program."
Harper says this shouldn't give the reserve program a black eye.
"They're a valuable asset. This in no way is representative of our reserve unit or our police department and i just wish it hadn't of happened," said Harper.
Athens Mayor Dan Williams says the city may evaluate drug testing the reserve officers.
"We do background checks on the people that come to work for us," said Williams. "The reserve officers are restricted in what they can do and they have to be with people who are certified policemen."
The report from the Limestone County Sheriff's Department says Pratt said he has a prescription for the pills found on him. There were other pills found in the car that were unaccounted for.
Chief Harper says Pratt came by the office Monday morning and apologized for embarrassing the police department.

University Officer Webster Simmons Charged with Rape and Sodomy
A Duke University police officer is arrested here in Houston county, accused of raping and sodomizing a female acquaintance.
37-year-old Webster Simmons of Rougemont, North Carolina is charged with first degree rape and sodomy.
The Houston County Sheriff's office says Simmons was in Dothan visiting family this past weekend.
Authorities say Simmons drugged his victim at a local bar, used bondage to subdue her, and then raped her in his truck.
Investigators say they found a whip, handcuffs, and other sexual bondage items in Simmons' car.
The victim claims she woke up during the rape, was handcuffed and had a gag in her mouth.
“This is not the type of rapes and sodomies that we commonly see with this type of bondage and this type of material that have been used during the commission of the rape. So it does disturb us, it makes us wonder if this individual has committed these types of crimes anywhere in the United States where may have been,” said Houston Co. Sheriff Andy Hughes.
Simmons has been suspended by Duke University Police.
His bond is set at $120,000 dollars.

Trial for Former Officer Wesley Little Begins

The trial of a former Huntsville police officer accused of allegedly planting drugs in a suspect's car begins today in Madison County Circuit Court.
Wesley Little's trial began this morning with jury selection and opening statements.
Little and fellow former officer Ryan Moore were indicted in May 2008 for attempting to possess a controlled substance, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, tampering with physical evidence and false reporting to law enforcement authorities. Little and Moore both resigned from the police force.
According to a civil lawsuit filed against Little by Quincy Turner, Little attempted to plant marijuana in Turner's car during an arrest in September 2007.
According to the lawsuit: Turner was diving a rental car in Huntsville when Little stopped him about a problem with the vehicle's license plate. Little searched the car and allegedly found marijuana.
Turner was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, taken to jail and prosecuted in Huntsville Municipal Court. But the city dropped the marijuana charge against Turner on June 16, 2007.
Little resigned from the police department in June 2008 after he was indicted.
According to the indictment, Little allegedly told a fellow officer during another vehicle search on Oct. 29, 2007, "there could be some marijuana inside the vehicle if it needed to be." Officers searched the car a second time and found marijuana, according to the indictment.
Little also was indicted on charges of possession of a pistol with altered or missing serial numbers, tampering with physical evidence and false reporting to a law enforcement agency.
Little, 30, had been with the department since December 2006.
