Officer Todd Kidwell Accused of Punching His Ex-Boyfriend

A Denton police officer accused of punching his ex-boyfriend in the face was arrested early Saturday, a Denton County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.

Todd Kidwell, 39, apparently got into an argument with the man in the parking lot of a restaurant in the 1000 block of U.S. Highway 380.

A passing motorist saw the men fighting and flagged down a deputy, the Dallas morning news reported.

The officer was taken to the Denton County jail and charged with assault. He was released at about 4 p.m. Saturday after posting a $2,500 bond.

The Denton County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident as The Denton Police Department conducts its own internal investigation.

What Happened To Innocent until proven guilty? Does anyone know the circumstances? Why are you so quick to judge Officer Kidwell? Do you know his father died just a few days earlier? I agree fist should not have been thrown but do we know why and the emotional state of Officer Kidwell. I’ve known this man for years and have never known him to hit anyone. He is on the other hand always been there to help everyone. He has 19 years with not a single negative on his record…please tell me our society has lost all compassion for someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Do we know the emotional state of someone who goes out drinking & driving, maybe they just had a close family member die... or the person who decides it's okay to rob a bank...maybe he/she saw no other way to solve their problem. ...Point is...there is NO EXCUSE for the reason why someone breaks the law. Officers are held to a much higher standard, they know the law beyond any doubt. They have a lot more to lose if they break the law...they can lose their jobs, and more importantly they lose the trust of the public when they break the law. He took a chance and chose the wrong choice, just like the drunk driving, he now has to face the consequences of his actions.

Would a Judge, this officer, have compassion for someone who’s mother-in-law is laying in the hospital dieing, and the only thing they did wrong was run a red light while rushing to the hospital? It’s a two way street, if the police want me & other citizens to have compassion for when they have some personal crisis going on, then they need to show and offer a little compassion to the people they are sworn to Protect & Serve.

I will agree that compassion is a two way street and sometimes common sense should come into play. Officer Kidwell was not drinking and didn’t kill anyone. If someone walked up to you a few days after your parent, child or spouse died and made ugly comments about them, how would you react? I don’t know if that was the situation or not, but then no one does. If you could just walk away, you must sit right up there next to Jesus Christ or just be one very cold human being. I’m sorry but law enforcement personnel are just as human as the rest of us. He hit the guy, he didn’t drink and drive, he didn’t shoot him, he didn’t beat him up severely, he hit him. We don’t even know who threw the first punch. He may have been defending himself. My problem here is that people are making a judgments on something they don’t even have the facts on simply because he is an officer and that’s just wrong! I do know Officer Kidwell and have known him for years, he is a compassionate person. All law enforcement are not the same. They are not “programmed”. I was not only pulled over for running a stop sign the day my mother died but taken home by the police officer who had compassion for my situation. We always hear the horror stories but seems the good ones are ignored.
