Officer William Cosby Faces Federal Lawsuit

NASHVILLE, Tenn.

A police officer accused of choking a Mount Juliet man faces $1 million federal lawsuit.

During a traffic stop in April, Cpl. Will Cosby questioned 26-year-old James Anders, Jr.

He thought Anders hid marijuana in his mouth and tried to stop him from swallowing the narcotic.

The traffic stop was recorded by a camera inside Cosby's squad car.

Anders collapsed unconscious.

On Monday, his attorney filed a $1.5. million lawsuit accusing Cosby, assisting officer James Crosslin and the city of Mount Juliet of violating his constitutional rights.

"He was being choked to death. That's what he felt at that time," said Ander's attorney Gary Vandever.

He said it shouldn't have happened. He filed the lawsuit in federal court alleging the officers' treatment was "unwarranted, cruel, abusive, unjustifiable and excessive and possibly fatal.

Vandever believes said the in-car video shown be shown to law enforcement trainees as an example of how not conduct themselves during traffic stops.

The lawsuit alleges assault and battery on behalf of the two officers.

It also accuses the city of negligence for hiring of Cosby, who had prior legal troubles as an officer in Lebanon.

Cosby remains on the job serving desk duty while the matter is investigated by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The Wilson County district attorney asked the TBI to investigate whether Crosby or Crosslin violated any laws.

Officials said the case will likely go to a grand jury in August.

My daughter was stopped one night in Lebanon, TN by officer William Cosby. Her report of his behaviour (screaming, threatening & rude) was totally uncalled for. I have worked with many Metro Davidson County police personel in equipment theft recovery. Never have I met one of their officers that in any way acted irrational and out of control. My opinion of Officer Cosby is that he should never ever be allowed to be in a situation in which he has control and authority over anyone. It is my sincerest hope is that bast*** (Wiliam Cosby) looses everthing over his misconduct as a police officer and is barred from ever applying for any police position. I hope he gets some jail time.
I have several friends who are police officers and they are professionals. My opinion is that William Cosby is a thug with a badge and in no way a professional.

I have know office william Cosby my whole life and I have never in my life ever seen him be agressive or out of control. Maybe what people dont understand is that when you are an officer you have to be tough because they are not sure what kind of sistuation they are getting into. I feel this guy with the drugs is playing the system and he will get what is coming to him. I have lived with law enforment my entire life and every person is different on there work. Karma will come back... He will end up on top. He is a very tough guy with a very big heart that would never hurt anyone.

Yeah, Karma will take care of William Cosby. When he screams at your 16 year old daughter, threatens her with arrest, accuses her of trying to run him over, calling her a whore (she was an honor roll student a the time) all because she made a wrong turn? Something is mentally wrong with the SOB. After some talking to some Davidson county cops that I was friends with he suddenly changed his tune and attempted to explain to the judge that he had made a mistake. But when it came right down to it, keeping that badge and gun was all that mattered to that POS. You might know him all your life and he's seems to be just an all around great guy. Well try meeting him at night when he has a badge and a gun and doesn't know who you are. Then you'll get to know the real William Cosby. I hope sincerely that he rots in hell.
